BOWLING GREEN, Ohio-Chrissy Steffen poured in 22 points and Tracy Pontius added 17 as the duo combined to hit eight of their 12 3-point attempts to power the Bowling Green women's basketball team in a 77-63 defeat of visiting Ohio.

BGSU improved to 21-4 and 9-3 in the Mid-American Conference, while Ohio dropped to 7-18 and 3-9 in the league.

Steffen and Pontius made 14 of their 20 field goal attempts, while the latter had four assists. Jen Uhl had an all-around game of nine points, six boards and five assists

Alesia Howard led the Bobcats with 14 points, while Kamille Buckner had 13 to go along with Tenishia Benson's 12 and Shavon Robinson's 11. Ashley Fowler had a team-best five assists, Buckner led the way with eight rebounds and Howard added three steals.

The Falcons got out to a six-point (12-6) lead at the 12:59 mark of the first half on a jumper by Pontius, but the Bobcats fought back to take a 20-19 lead on a Howard jumper with 6:28 remaining in the first stanza. Jessica Slagle put the home team back ahead with a 3-pointer 38 seconds later and helped BGSU to a 31-27 lead at the half.

The Falcons increased the lead to as much as 23 (73-50) on a layup by Jillian Halfhill, but Ohio closed the game on a 13-3 run to close the gap by the final buzzer.

The Bobcats won the battle on the boards 30-25 and held a 10-2 edge on second chance points. BGSU won the turnover category, however, by a 21-11 margin.

Both teams shot and even 50 percent for the game (BGSU: 26-52, Ohio 24-48).

Ohio will be back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Convo against Akron. The first 300 fans will receive pink t-shirts courtesy of Ohio Athletics, and Ohio will don pink uniforms in support of breast cancer awareness. The game is also Youth Day at the Convo, with FREE admission for all youth ages 3-18.
