TOLEDO, Ohio-Naama Shafir had 17 points, while Jessica Williams contributed 12 and Melissa Goodall chipped in nine points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead the Toledo women's basketball squad to a 68-48 victory over visiting Ohio Saturday afternoon at Savage Arena.
The Rockets improved to 18-6 and 10-1 in the Mid-American Conference, while Ohio dropped to 7-17 and 3-8 in the league.
Shafir and Williams combined to shoot 7-for-10 from 3-point range and the Rockets notched 20 assists on their 28 field goals, shooting 49.1 percent from the field in the process. UT also held a 6-1 edge in blocks and a 34-31 edge on the glass.
The Bobcats had three student-athletes in double figures, led by Alesia Howard's 13 points, to go with 10 each from Shavon Robinson and Tenishia Benson. That trio also snared six rebounds apiece, with five of Benson's coming on the offensive end. Ashley Fowler had three assists apiece and Symone Lyles posted a game-high four steals.
The Rockets jumped out to a 10-2 lead five mintues, 16 seconds into the game on a pair of free throws by Lecretia Smith and gradually build the margin to 19 (43-24) at halftime. They got another layup by Yolanda Richardson two minutes, 50 seconds into the second stanza to take their largest lead of 25 (51-26).
Ohio held a 14-11 edge in steals and forced Toledo into 20 turnovers, but also committed 24 themselves.
The Bobcats will back in action at Bowling Green Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.
