Oxford, Ohio - A first-half goal by Jesssica Jue held up for Ohio Field Hockey as it won at Miami this afternoon, 1-0. The fifth-straight shutout in conference play for the Bobcats clinched the team at least a share of the 2011 Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship.
Taylor Brown had Ohio’s first shot of the game in the third minute of action and then had another try saved by Miami’s Sarah Mueller in the 12th minute. Jenna Green shot wide in the 18th and Brooke Edwards also shot awry in the 21st.
The only goal of the contest came when the Bobcats earned a penalty corner. Brown’s initial shot rebounded back to her and her second attempt was deflected home by Jue for a 1-0 lead.
Brown had two more tries at goal in the waning seconds, with one of her chances clanging off the post.
The Bobcats held Miami without a shot for the first 11 minutes of the second half and after Brown hit the post in the 55th minute, neither team registered a shot for the rest of the game.
Senior goalkeeper Jen McGill made five saves, four in the first half, for her eighth shutout of the season. She entered the weekend ranked second in the nation with a goals-against average of 0.70.
Ohio finished with 11 shots, while Miami ended with eight. The Bobcats also finished with advantage on penalty corners at 7-5.
The Bobcats have a chance to clinch the regular-season title outright tomorrow at Ball State. Ohio will face-off with the Cardinals at 1 p.m. in Muncie.
