ATHENS, Ohio - Jessica Vaeth and Andrea Biegalski scored their first goals of the season as Ohio defeated Miami this afternoon at home, 2-0. The Bobcats improved to 10-2, 3-0 in the MAC with the victory and are the lone undefeated team in conference play.

The Bobcats came out and dominated play in the first half, holding a 7-1 edge in shots and 6-0 lead in penalty corners. However, the home side was unable to make a dent in the scoreboard as the teams were tied 0-0 at intermission.

Brooke Edwards, Jessica Jue and Louzeth Schutte all had chances saved by Miami goalkeeper Sarah Mueller and Schutte even had a try bounce off the post and get saved off the line in the 23rd minute.

Miami's best scoring chance during the period came during the 33rd minute off a shot by sophomore forward Emily Gruesser. Ohio goalkeeper Jen McGill was in position to make the save, one of three she made on the day.

The Bobcats finally broke the tie in the 45th minute when Vaeth was able to re-direct a shot from Taylor Brown into the back of the net after Brown had wriggled away from her defender in the right corner.

Gruesser and Olivia Miller would both get shots off of penalty corners as Miami looked for the equalizer, but both times McGill made the save.

Ohio would put the game away in the 66th minute when Biegalski scored on a penalty corner. It was the junior defender's first goal of the season and was set up by redshirt freshman Lauryl Desch.

Ohio out-shot Miami 8-2 in the second half and 15-3 for the game. However, the penalty corners were even in the second half, 3-3 after the disparity favoring the home side in the first 35 minutes.

Ohio continues MAC play next Friday with a game at 2 p.m. at Central Michigan. The Bobcats return home for a Sunday non-conference tilt with No. 12 Iowa on Sunday at noon.
