DAYTON, Ohio - Ohio Men's Golf began its final event of the 2011 fall season in a strong manner on Monday, occupying sixth place of the 16 teams competing at the 2011 University of Dayton Flyer Invitational. The Bobcats accumulated a team score of 303 through the first round of play, finding themselves only 10 strokes off the lead.
In the individual competition, Ohio's Byron Firestone (Canton, Ohio) had a great first round, shooting a 71 to match par. This tied for the best round shot throughout the entire first day of competition.
Ohio's team outing was led by Connor Coldwater (Clarks Summit, Pa.) and Michael Lamping (Dublin, Ohio), who each shot four-over-par 75s on the day. Very close to them were teammates Paul Grauer (Dublin, Ohio) and Bradley Lucas (Worthington, Ohio), who shot a 76 and 77, respectively. John Mlynarski (St. Michaels, Md.) rounded out Ohio's day, hitting a 40 on both the front and back nine to finish with an 80.
After the first round of the competition, IUPUI holds the top spot with a team score of 293.
Day two of the Dayton Flyer Invitational will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
