Bobcats Fall on the Road to Eagles

YPSILANTI, Mich.-Homestanding Eastern Michigan jumped out to a big first-half lead and shot 62.3 percent en route to an 85-40 defeat of visiting Ohio Wednesday evening in EMU's Convocation Center.

 

The Eagles improved to 14-7 and 5-2 in the Mid-American Conference, while Ohio dipped to 6-14 and 2-5 in the league.

 

The Bobcats played without guard Tenishia Benson (13.7 ppg., 7.6 rpg.), who left Saturday's game vs. Western Michigan due to injury.

 

EMU's Sydney Huntley led the way with 14 points and six steals on 6-for-10 shooting, while Tavelyn James chipped in 12 points. Cassie Schrock added eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

 

Ohio was led 13 points from Alesia Howard and 10 from Kamille Buckner. Both players also had seven rebounds and combined to make 11 of 14 free throws. Ashley Fowler posted four assists, as well, playing the entire game at point guard.

 

The Bobcats took an early lead on a Shavon Robinson layup 53 seconds into the game, but James nailed a jumper 38 seconds later to knot the affair. The Eagles gradually built the lead from there and took a 47-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. The margin hit 40 (65-25) on a pair of free throws by Desyree Thomas with 12:57 left in the game.

 

EMU made 38 of 61 shots (62.3 percent) for the game, while Ohio connected on just 24 percent (12 of 50). The Bobcats did manage, however, to outrebound the Eagles 35-32, which included 18 offensive caroms.

 

The Bobcats will be back home Saturday for a 2 p.m. ET tip against Northern Illinois.
