ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University men's golf team finished ninth at the BGSU John Piper Invitational with Byron Firestone winding up in a tie for 10th after a second-round 73.
Firestone shaved two strokes of his score from the first round and earned the team's first top-10 finish of the fall season. After shooting an opening-round 74, John Mlynarski struggled in the second round and shot a 79. Paul Grauer, Bradley Lucas and Chuck Nettles all finished with 76's for the second day in a row as the trio tied for 37th individually.
Bowling Green pulled away to win the event with a cumulative score of 580. The University of Indianapolis moved up to second, finishing 11 strokes back of the Falcons. Dayton and Eastern Kentucky finished in a tie for third at 595 and the University of Indianapolis' "B" squad finished fifth at 598. The Bobcats wound up with a two-day total of 602.
Drew Preston of Bowling Green was the only golfer to finish under par, ending with a two-day score of -5. Robert Gleixner of Indianapolis was in second place at even par and three golfers, Brian Fister of EKU, Nate Holm from Indianapolis' "B" team and Andrew Bailey of Cleveland State.
