Final Stats
ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University field hockey team was defeated on the road this afternoon by Cal, 4-2. The neutral-site contest featured Bobcat goals from Taylor Brown and Jessica Jue.
Cal scored twice in the first 19 minutes to grab a 2-0 lead. A pass from Claire Dougherty on the right side was redirected past Courtney Seiders in the fifth minute by Laura Livingston. In the 19th minute, Deanna Kennedy set up Lisa Lohre who scored off a Golden Bear penalty corner.
Katharine Ballard had three shots in the first half, two were saved by Cal goalkeeper Maddie Hand and one was blocked by a defender. Brown had her first chance of the game in the waning seconds of the half and sent the attempt wide.
Jue scored her first goal as a Bobcat in the 32nd minute after receiving the ball from Brooke Edwards and dribbling into position. The freshman sliced the deficit and grabbed momentum back in favor of the 'Cats heading into the intermission.
Cal regained the two-goal advantage four minutes into the second half on a tally by Dougherty. She redirected a shot from the top left of the circle by Erin Magill off a penalty corner. A minute later, Megan Shimojima made it 4-1 in favor of the opposition off yet another redirection.
Haleh Nourani was subbed into goal at halftime for Cal and denied Cathryn Altdoerffer off a penalty corner two minutes into the second stanza. She then stopped Louzeth Schutte and Brown twice before Edwards put one high and Altdoerffer hit the post all in a two-minute span.
Altdoerffer was denied two more times before the Bobcats got one back to make it 4-2. Despite personally not scoring, the sophomore finished with a game-high four shots on goal for Ohio. In the 51st minute, a penalty corner was converted nicely by Brown for her fifth goal of the season. Paige Herr and Andrea Biegalski were credited with assists, their first points of the season.
For the game, Ohio out-shot Cal 17-10 and held a 12-6 edge in penalty corners. Seiders finished with five saves in goal for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats stay in Bloomington, Ind. and play the Hoosiers tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
