ATHENS, Ohio-Former Ohio outfielders Robert Maddox III and Gauntlett Eldemire were each recognized for their outstanding 2010 performances on Monday.
Maddox was named a third-team All-American by the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) and a first-team All-Mideast Region honoree, while Eldemire garnered second-team all-region acclaim.
It was Maddox's second All-America honor this season (Collegiate Baseball), after leading the Mid-American Conference in home runs (21) and slugging percentage (.737) and was second in RBIs (78) and total bases (174). The RBI total is a school record and the fourth-highest single-season total in league history, while the total bases mark is sixth.
In addition to those categories, Maddox also led the squad in hits (89) and doubles (20). One of just two Bobcats to start every game this season, Maddox stands atop the school record book in RBIs (181) and fourth in homers (43) and total bases (411). His junior campaign also saw him set top-five single-season school marks in total bases (2nd, 174), home runs (T-2nd, 21), hits (4th, 89), slugging percentage (4th, .737) and doubles (T-5th, 20).
He was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 18th round of this year's Major League Baseball Draft.
Eldemire, a 2010 All-Mid-American Conference First Team selection, finished first in the league in on-base percentage (.496), second in slugging percentage (.726), third in batting average (.398), fourth in home runs (16), sixth in total bases (146) and tied for sixth in stolen bases (16).
His best stretch came during the first week of May, when he hit .700 with one double, seven homers, 11 RBIs and 36 total bases. He slugged 1.800, had an on-base percentage of .769 and went errorless in his 14 chances in the field. His biggest performance came during the Saturday game against Buffalo when he went 5-for-5 with three homers, four runs scored and six RBIs. His 15 total bases in that contest are the fifth-highest total in league history. For his efforts, Eldemire was named National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball in addition to being named MAC East Player of the Week.
Eldemire finished in the top five in the school's career record book in home runs (third, 44), stolen bases (third, 37) and runs (fifth, 156).
He was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the sixth round of this year's Major League Baseball Draft.
