Final Stats
DAYTON, Ohio-The Wright State baseball team scored 11 runs in the first four innings as the Raiders defeated visiting Ohio 12-4 at Nischwitz Stadium Tuesday evening.
The Raiders improved to 12-10 overall, while Ohio fell to 3-22.
WSU designated hitter Gerald Ogrinc drove in four runs and center fielder Dan Marsh drove in three to lead the way. Left fielder Casey McGrew posted three hits.
Ohio was led by first baseman Jerod Yakubik, who had two hits, two runs scored and knocked in a run. Left fielder Robert Maddox III drove in two as well.
Raider starter Cody Kopilchack (1-0) got his first win, allowing no runs on two hits with one strikeout and three walks in five innings pitched. Ohio starter Andrew Danko (0-1) lasted just two innings, yielding six runs on seven hits with one strikeout and one walk.
After seeing Wright State jump out to an 11-0 lead, Maddox got Ohio on the board with a double down the left field line, scoring Yakubik. Yakubik led off the inning by reaching on an error by WSU first baseman Jake Hibberd.
Ohio pinch hitter Sam Mahoney tallied an RBI groundout in the eighth, plating Yakubik again after he was hit by a 3-2 pitch earlier in the frame.
Yakubik knocked in one himself in the ninth with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring right fielder Kory Burkhart, who coaxed a leadoff walk to reach base. Maddox knocked in the last run of the contest with a single to right, sending home pinch hitter Doug Holmes after Holmes also drew a base on balls.
Ohio hosts Marshall Wednesday night at 6 p.m. ET. The game will also be “Health Night†at Bob Wren Stadium and will feature health-themed promotions and music, as well as giveaways from several healthcare non-profits. Also, all local hospital personnel will be given a FREE ticket.
