Final Stats

Athens, Ohio - Despite four home runs and nine Bobcats collecting hits, Ohio (12-27) dropped a mid-week affair at Duquesne this afternoon, 12-7.

Robert Maddox III (Euclid, Ohio) and Bryan Barnes (Mountlake, Wash.) each collected three hits, while Seth Streich (Ridgeway, Pa.) and Gauntlett Eldemire (Shaker Heights, Ohio) each drove in two runs for the Green & White.

The scoring started with a sacrifice fly from Chris Kimmeth which gave Duquesne a 1-0 lead in the fourth but that was quickly evened out by a solo homer off the bat of Ohio's Kris McDonough (Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the top of the fifth. The dinger was the seventh of the season for the senior catcher.

The Dukes retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning after a Bobcat error and plated another run after a bases-loaded walk. Duquesne would push across two more in the sixth and five in the seventh to break the game open and take a 10-1 lead. Ohio didn't go down quietly however. In the eighth, Maddox singled to lead off the inning and Streich smacked the `Cats' second homer of the game. It was the freshman's fifth blast of the 2010 campaign.

With one out, McDonough walked before Adam Gecewich (Strongsville, Ohio) hit into a fielder's choice for the second out of the inning. Sophomore Doug Holmes (Twinsburg, Ohio) pinch-hit and delivered a double to keep the inning alive. With two runners in scoring position, the Bobcats caught a break when Duquesne pitcher Sean Clark uncorked a wild pitch to plate another run and make the score 10-4.

The Dukes tacked on two more runs in their half of the eighth but the Bobcats started things off with a bang in the ninth. After Jerod Yakubik (Byesville, Ohio) doubled to center, Eldemire hit Ohio's third round-tripper on the day. It was the junior outfielder's seventh home run of the year. That was followed by another blast, this one off the bat of Maddox. The solo shot was his team-leading 11th of the season.

Brent Choban (Barberton, Ohio) earned the start and allowed one run in 3.2 innings, while Tyler Backstrom (Columbus, Ohio) was saddled with the loss. Duquesne's Michael Pelekanos got the win after allowing one run and striking out four batters over 4.2 innings.

Ohio hits the road this weekend for the middle portion of their seven-game road swing. The Bobcats play at Kent State with the first game of the three-game series scheduled for Friday at a 3 p.m.
