Maddox, O'Neill Homer in Ohio Loss

ATHENS, Ohio-Left fielder Dennis Vaughn drove in three runs, while second baseman Logan Meisler had three hits and scored three times to lead visiting Bowling Green to an 8-2 win over Ohio Saturday afternoon at Bob Wren Stadium.

                                                                                               

BGSU improved to 17-18-1 and 8-6 in the Mid-American Conference with the win, while Ohio dropped to 11-25 and 6-8 in the league.

 

Falcon center fielder T.J. Blanton and designated hitter Matthew Pitzulo scored twice as well.

 

Ohio got homers from left fielder Robert Maddox III and shortstop Wesley O’Neill, who also had a team-high three hits.

 

BGSU starter Michael Frank (2-3) got the win, tossing seven innings and allowing two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

 

Ohio starter Jason Moulton (1-2) suffered the loss, yielding just three earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and three walks in six innings. Bobcat reliever Ben Trimbur was impressive in his outing, limiting the Falcons to just one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in three innings.

 

For the second straight game, BGSU got up by a significant margin early in the game as it piled up five early runs on the Bobcats. Maddox’s second-inning leadoff bomb to left came on the first pitch he saw and was his ninth homer of the season.

 

The Falcons got three more runs in the sixth before O’Neill launched his second homer of the season when his shot carried over the outfield wall in left center.

 

Bobcat first baseman Jerod Yakubik doubled down the right field line in the fifth inning to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.

 

The two teams will play the final game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
