ATHENS, Ohio- Ohio wrestler Seth Morton has been named to the 2010 Academic All-MAC team, the Mid-American Conference announced Thursday. The senior from Canal Winchester, Ohio, earns his third such award alongside Eastern Michigan’s Chris Jenkins, a fellow three-time honoree.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in both athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season are only considered.
Morton has earned a 3.30 cumulative grade point average while pursuing a degree in Exercise Physiology. He is in the midst of a stellar 2009-10 season in which he has compiled a 23-8 record that includes an 8-0 mark in bonus-point bouts (2-0 in falls, 2-0 in technical falls and 4-0 in major decisions). Morton took second place at the 2010 MAC Tournament, earning him a berth in the 2010 NCAA Championships in Omaha, Nebraska.
