MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.- In the most difficult dual meet of the season, Ohio Wrestling (11-5, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) got swept at Central Michigan by a final tally of 40-0. The Chippewas took all ten of the day’s bouts, three of which were by way of pin. Friday’s dual meet marks the first time that the Bobcats have been shutout since a 39-0 defeat at Michigan State on January 4, 2008.
Central Michigan (16-2) got off to a fast start on Friday, taking the first two bouts. Bobcat redshirt freshman Gabe Ramos (Hopatcong, N.J.) fought very hard against No. 9 Matt Steintrager in the first matchup of the evening, losing the 125 pound battle to the tune of a 6-4 decision. Steintrager jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but Ramos was not done. A third period escape, takedown and penalty point pulled him within 5-4, but 2:33 riding time was too much to overcome. No. 7 Scotti Sentes followed this up with a 9-0 major decision at 133 pounds, giving the host Chippewas an early 7-0 lead.
No. 11 Germane Lindsey’s (Cincinnati, Ohio) six-bout winning streak came to an end Friday, as he lost a 6-1 decision to Conor Beebe.
The Chippewas kept up intense pressure on the Bobcats, winning bout after bout in the early going. No. 12 Tony D’allie beat Seth Morton (Canal Winchester, Ohio) in a close 3-1 decision, which was followed up by two more decision victories at 157 and 165 pounds.
No. 10 Ben Bennett pinned Ohio’s Jacob Ison (Batavia, Ohio) in 3:47, preventing the redshirt junior from earning his 20th win of the year. This marked the first time that Ison had been pinned in 2009-10 and the start of three consecutive Central Michigan victories that came by way of fall. Dillon Kern took down Steve Wilson (Marion, Ohio) in 1:27 and Eric Simaz pinned Brian Driscoll (Avon Lake, Ohio) in just under three minutes.
In the closest bout of the day, No. 4 Jarod Trice took a 6-5 decision over Ohio’s Andy Hartshorn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio). Hartshorn took a 3-2 lead before Trice tied it up at the end of the first period with an escape. The Bobcat heavyweight then took a 5-4 lead with only moments remaining, but Trice was able to escape again to tie and ultimately take the victory with 2:05 riding time. For full results, see below:
