Bobcats Wrestle Well, Complete First Day at Virginia Duals

HAMPTON, Virginia- The Bobcats (7-1, 0-0 Mid-American Conference) finished the first day of the 2010 Virginia Duals with an even 1-1 record Friday, falling to No. 15 Edinboro and defeating UC Davis.

Edinboro won a close first-round match between the teams, edging the Bobcats by a final score of 20-12. Ohio won four bouts in the match, as Quentin Keyes (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio), Seth Morton, Clay Tucker (Martins Ferry, Ohio) and Erik Schuth all came away with victories.

After the Fighting Scots took the 125-pound bout, Keyes turned in a solid performance en route to defeating Ashton Osterberg by a score of 7-2. Morton (Canal Winchester, Ohio) won at 149 pounds, taking a 5-2 decision over Torsten Gillespie. The `Cats were able to gain some momentum by winning back-to-back bouts, as Tucker won a 10-5 decision in the 157-pound bracket immediately after Morton's victory. Edinboro then came back and won the next three bouts in a row before Schuth (Spencerport, N.Y.) won a close 3-2 decision over Shawn Fedone. See below for full results:

The Green and White came out strong in the second match, beating UC Davis by a final score of 29-12. The `Cats took six of the ten bouts and really started things off on the right foot by winning the first three. Gabe Ramos (Hopatcong, N.J.) took a 10-8 decision in the 125-pound bracket which Keyes followed up immediately and emphatically with a 16-4 major decision over Justin Arredondo. Tucker took an additional major decision a few bouts later, winning 12-2 in the 157-pound class. Nick Purdue (Genoa, Ohio) and Schuth then took their bouts, with Schuth's second victory of the day coming by pin. See below for full results:
