COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Bobcats couldn't quite find their rhythm on Friday, as they were shut out by the No. 19 Ohio State Buckeyes. The `Cats were able to put the first shot on goal as junior Katherine Ballard (Charlottesville, Va.) tested goalkeeper Lindsay Quintiliani early on, but she was equal to the challenge. Just moments later the game had its first goal when Jena Cacciatore found the back of the net for the Buckeyes. The goal was scored off of a penalty corner and was her fourth of the season.
Ohio was on the defensive for much of the game, as goalkeeper Courtney Seiders (Mt. Joy, Pa.) faced 12 shots on goal. She had another quality day for the `Cats, as she did make nine saves on the night. Offensively for the Bobcats, Marcy Dull (Ephrata, Pa.), Andrea Biegalski (Collegeville, Pa.) and the aforementioned Ballard each tallied a shot on goal.
The Buckeyes offensive pressure carried over into the second half, as they added goals from Berta Queralt and another from Cacciatore to put the game out of reach at 3-0.
"It was a very frustrating day," said head coach Neil Macmillan. "We certainly need to give Ohio State credit for playing well and stopping us in our execution. It was disappointing, but I'm looking forward to another chance against a top-20 team with Virginia coming in on Sunday. We'll re-focus and get ourselves ready for that game."
The Bobcats will look to get back on track on Sunday when No. 6 Virginia comes to Pruitt Field. Game time is set for one pm.
