Dec. 4, 2009

ATHENS, Ohio -Ohio Wrestling (3-0, 0-0 Mid-American Conference) dominated the 2009 Bobcat Duals Friday, winning by a convincing margin in all three matches. The `Cats beat The Citadel 32-3, Appalachian State 26-9 and Cleveland State 41-4. Six Bobcat wrestlers (Quentin Keyes, Seth Morton, Jacob Ison, Nick Purdue, Erik Schuth and Andy Hartshorn) compiled perfect 3-0 records on the day.

The Bobcats began the event by squaring off against The Citadel Bulldogs. Ohio dominated the match, winning by a final score of 32-3. Keyes, Darrin Boing, Morton, Tucker (Martins Ferry, Oh.), Kevin Christensen, Ison (Batavia, Oh.), Purdue, Schuth (Spencerport, N.Y.) and Hartshorn (Reynoldsburg, Oh.) all won for the host Bobcats. Boing, Morton and Purdue all made short work of their opponents, taking their individual bouts by major decisions. The rest of the Ohio victories came by decision.

To begin the match, The Citadel's Giazzi Segarra defeated Kyle Ciccarello by a 7-4 decision, putting the visitors up 3-0. This would be the last time that the Bulldogs had the lead, however, as Keyes (Cuyahoga Falls, Oh.) defeated Jordan Dix by technical fall in the 133 bout, giving Ohio a 5-3 lead that it would never relinquish. Boing (Northfield Center, Oh.) added a punctuation mark by defeating Nick LaFevre by a 12-4 major decision, putting the `Cats up by six points. Morton (Canal Winchester, Oh.) followed suit immediately after in the 149 bout, defeating Derek Royster by an 8-0 major decision, giving Ohio a 13-3 lead. Tucker won a hotly-contested overtime bout against Turtogtokh Luvsandorj, improving his 2009-10 record to a 4-2 mark at this point. Christensen (165), Ison (174), Schuth (197) and Hartshorn (HWT) took all of their bouts by decision, and Purdue (Genoa, Oh.) earned a 12-1 major decision over Kelby Smith.
