Nov. 1, 2009

ATHENS, Ohio - It was a busy day for Ohio Wrestling, as the 2009-10 season kicked off with a team-sponsored wrestling clinic in the morning which was followed immediately by an autograph session and the 2009 Green and White Intra-Squad meet. Green edged White in the annual battle, with Jake Wojcik (Homer Glen, Ill.), Germane Lindsey, Clay Tucker (Martins Ferry, Oh.), Kevin Christensen, Jacob Ison (Batavia, Oh.) and Erik Schuth winning their respective bouts.

Green (wearing black singlets) won the first bout as Wojcik overpowered Gabe Ramos (Hopatcong, N.J.) 4-0 in the 125-lb class.

"Jake Wojcik came in as a freshman and had a pretty dominating win," said head coach Joel Greenlee.

The next bout went to White as Quentin Keyes (Cuyahoga Falls, Oh.) defeated Michael Fennell (Commack, N.Y.) 7-2 in the 133-lb class.

The 141-lb class decision went to Green, with Lindsey (Cincinnati, Oh.) getting the better of White's Darrin Boing (Northfield Center, Oh.) by a score of 9-1.

White got back on track in the 149-lb bout as Seth Morton (Canal Winchester, Oh.) bested Green's Zach Nelson (Mt. Sterling, Oh.) 4-1.

The 157-lb bout was won by Green's Tucker as he edged freshman Kyle Lang (North Royalton, Oh.) by a score of 8-4.

Christensen (Fairborn, Oh.) of the green team won 5-1 in the 165-lb class over Steve Wilson (Marion, Oh.).

Of the remaining four weight classes, the green team took two and the white team took two. Green won 174 and 197 on the strength of Ison and Schuth (Spencerport, N.Y.) and White took the 184-lb and heavyweight classes with wins by Nick Purdue (Genoa, Oh.) and Andy Hartshorn (Reynoldsburg, Oh.).

"I thought we wrestled pretty well," said Greenlee. "I'd like to see us be a little more aggressive on our feet and a little more aggressive on the bottom, but other than that I thought we wrestled pretty well."

The Bobcats will begin the regular season when they travel to Salem, Virginia, on November 8 for the Hokie Open.
