KENT, Ohio - Overtime has not been friendly to the Bobcats this season, as they fell 2-1 in the sudden-death period to Kent State on Sunday.

The first half got off to a rather slow start, with the teams combining for only two shots on goal in the first 30 minutes. A penalty corner for Ohio opened up a flurry of action in the 32nd minute, resulting in a Katherine Ballard goal to put the Bobcats ahead 1-0. That goal was the sixth of the year for Ballard (Charlottesville, Va.), and her third tally on the weekend. Just like yesterday, Ballard's goal was assisted by Brittany Zorn (Millersville, Md.) and Katelyn Shelley (Ephrata, Pa.)

"She's (Ballard) a person that has proved if you do the work on your own away from practice time, you can really see the rewards," said head coach Neil Macmillan. "Three goals in two games and all of her execution is fantastic."

The last five minutes of the first half were intense, as the Ohio goal was followed by Debbie Bell of Kent State scoring her 13th of the year to tie the match at one apiece.

The teams went into halftime with the score deadlocked at one.

The second half began similarly to the first, with both teams trading possession, fouls and substitutions, but not exactly a plethora of shots. In the 64th minute, Ballard tried to put another one in the net for Ohio but was denied by Caroline Suitch of the Flashes. This shot proved to be the last significant action of the second half, as this game was destined for overtime.

The overtime period started off in frantic fashion, with Kent State's Bell firing a hard shot on goal. Courtney Seiders (Mt. Joy, Pa.) for the Bobcats was equal to the task and knocked it harmlessly aside.

Unfortunately for the Green and White, this weekend would only end with only one MAC victory, as Kent's Rachel Miller scored her fifth goal of the season in the 80th minute (ten minutes into overtime) to end the contest. Seiders made the initial save on the first shot, but Miller was able to hammer in her own rebound to end this hard-fought match.

The `Cats will next see action when they travel to Muncie, Indiana, for an October 10 match at Ball State.
