Final Stats
ATHENS, Ohio - Marcy Dull scored a hat trick and Courtney Seiders posted a shutout during an exhilarating 5-0 domination of the visiting Central Michigan Chippewas. The Bobcats (8-8, 6-2 MAC) outshot Central Michigan 22-5 in the match and completely dictated the tone of the day.
The match began with the teams trading possession and a few shots early on. Patty Donahue (Powell, Oh.) fired one towards the goal in the 10th minute that was met by Central's Melissa Curan. Back and forth the play went until the 29th minute, when Dull (Ephrata, Pa.) scored on a penalty corner. The ball was fed in by Nina Bruno (Chevy Chase, Md.) straight to Dull, who put it away.
The Bobcats struck again just two minutes later when Brooke Edwards (Milford, Pa.) found the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Paige Herr (Lancaster, Pa.) had a nice assist on this tally.
"It was great," said head coach Neil Macmillan. "We knew that we'd have to move the ball well and we had been working on that this week."
With a 2-0 lead, the Bobcats kept up the pressure. Dull scored her second of the day on a penalty corner in the 52nd minute when Brittany Zorn (Millersville, Md.) fed the ball to Katelyn Shelley (Ephrata, Pa.), who laid it up nicely for Dull's strike.
Ten minutes later, Shelley and Dull were running down the field in a two-on-one situation. Shelley stick handled well enough to pull the sweeper out of position and then crossed the ball at the last moment to Dull, who slammed it home for her third of the day and eighth of the season.
"Getting a hat trick is definitely a team goal," said Dull. "All of my goals were assisted and without my teammates I would not have been able to score those goals. It is a team accomplishment."
The final goal of the day came from the great play of two of the younger Bobcats, freshman Taylor Brown (Elkton, Md.) and sophomore Laine Greenawalt. Brown dribbled down in the offensive zone and pulled the goalkeeper out of position then unselfishly played the ball to Greenawalt (Pottstown, Pa.) who tucked it neatly away.
"It was great execution of the game plan by our team," said Macmillan. "To get on the score sheet five times is excellent."
The Bobcats will wrap up the regular season at home next weekend when they take on Ball State (10/31) and Miami (11/1). Both game times are set for one p.m.
