Final Stats

MUNCIE, Indiana - On a crisp autumn day in Indiana, Ohio Field Hockey notched a solid conference victory over the Ball State Cardinals, 3-1.

Leading the offensive charge for the `Cats were Marcy Dull (Ephrata, Pa.) and Cathryn Altdoerffer (Conestoga, Pa.). Dull found the back of the net twice and Altdoerffer scored her first career goal as a Bobcat.

"That was exciting," said head coach Neil Macmillan. "It was almost in slow motion as the ball was passed over the goalkeeper by Katelyn and took a deflection...she waited for it to come down and buried it."

Jen McGill (Louisville, Ky.) earned the win in goal for the Bobcats, making seven saves and only allowing one score.

"Jen made some pretty stellar saves that kept it from being close late in the match," said Macmillan.

The match got off to a quick start, with the Cardinals earning a penalty corner in the first minute. The `Cats were able to defuse this dangerous situation through a stellar block inside the circle followed soon after by McGill's first save of the day. The teams then traded possession for the next few moments until Ohio generated three penalty corners and three shots right around the ten minute mark.

The teams battled through a scoreless thirty minutes and with just five to go in the half it appeared that no one would break through until the second stanza. That all changed when the `Cats earned a penalty corner in the 30th minute which would result in Dull's first goal of the match. It was assisted by Katelyn Shelley (Ephrata, Pa.) for her sixth helper of the season.

The Green and White headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Ball State came out firing in the second half, refusing to go down quietly. The Cardinals (3-9, 1-4 MAC) evened the score in the 56th minute on the strength of a Morgan Cloutier goal off of a penalty corner. The goal was Cloutier's second of the year and leveled the score at one apiece.

The `Cats showed some grit and determination by answering right back with another goal of their own. Dull created some space and scored an unassisted goal just four minutes after the Cardinals equalized.

The dagger came in the form of a career-first, as freshman Altdoerffer found the back of the net in the 66th minute to lock up the victory for Ohio. Shelley provided the helping hand once again, with this tally marking her second assist of the match.

Ohio (4-7, 2-2 MAC) now heads to Oxford to take on the Miami Redhawks. Game time is set for October 11 at 1 pm.
