Ohio Pushes Miami to the Limit in 82-72 Loss

OXFORD, Ohio - Four players scored in double figures for Ohio as the Bobcats lost to Miami in overtime, 82-72, Wednesday night in Oxford.

Lauren Kohn (Adrian, Mich.) led all Bobcat players with 24 points and 10 rebounds, which is her third double-double of the season. Kohn shot 8-of-18 from the floor and was perfect at the free-throw line for the 12th time this season shooting 6-of-6.

Lauren Hmiel (York, Pa.) scored in double figures for the second straight game with 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor and 4-of-6 shooting from the free-throw line. Quintana Ward (Park Forest, Ill.) and Simone Redd (Warrensville Heights, Ohio) both finished with 10 points. Ward also had five rebounds and five assists.

Jenny Poff (St. Johns, Mich.) scored seven points for Ohio. She also had six rebounds. Chandra Myers (Sugarcreek, Ohio) finished with six points and three rebounds.

The Bobcats overcame a 13-point halftime deficient to tie the game at 39-39 going into halftime. The teams opened up the game scoring back-to-back buckets each for a 4-4 tie at 18:28. The RedHawks then went on a 7-2 run to lead 11-6 at the first media timeout at 15:35. Kohn, Hmiel and Myers had scored baskets for the Bobcats.

Miami pushed its lead to 21-13 after the timeout. Amanda Jackson and Courtney Reed combined for ten points for the RedHawk advantage. The Hawks led by as many as 13 points, 26-13, until Ohio scored ten straight points, including three pointers from Ward and Hmiel to pull within four, 29-25, at the 7:50 mark.

A three-pointer by Kohn at 6:18 kept Ohio in the game with Miami leading by only three, 31-28. The game stayed that way until Miami's Ashleigh Brown scored on a lay-up for a 33-28 lead. After free throws from Poff and Ward, Ohio pulled within two points, 33-31, at the 3:15 mark. A lay-up by Kohn tied the game at 33-33 with 2:48 left in the half. The remainder of the half included three more ties as both teams went into intermission knotted at 39-39. Kohn had 11 points at the half, shooting 50 percent from the floor (5-of-10). Ward finished the half with 10 points.

Kohn scored the first basketball of the second frame to push Ohio up to a 41-39 lead, but the RedHawks splurged to a 49-45 lead as Laura Markwood scored six points during the 10-6 run. Kohn nailed a three at the 15-minute mark to put Ohio within one point at 49-48. Another three by Poff gave the Bobcats a 51-49 advantage. A short range jumper by Kohn at 13:04 pushed Ohio's lead to four, 53-49, and forced a Miami timeout.

A 2-0 run by Miami tied the game, 53-53, with 11:36 on the clock. The teams traded runs for the next four minutes and the scored was tied 59-59 at the 7:17 mark. The game was tied again at 62-62 before Ohio went on 7-2 run to lead, 69-64, at the three-minute mark. Redd hit a three during the run, while Kohn and Myers also made baskets.

A steal and lay-up by Jackson pulled Miami within three at 69-66 and a foul by the Bobcats at 2:20 led to two free throws by Markwood that pulled the RedHawks within one at 69-68. Hmiel then hit one of an one-and-one for a 70-68 Bobcat lead with 1:33 on the clock.

Miami then scored four points off of two Ohio turnovers for a 72-70 lead with 52 second left in the game. A foul by Miami's Jenna Schone with 26.7 seconds left put Kohn on the line for two that tied the game, 72-72, and a tenacious Bobcat defense didn't allow the RedHawks to score on a last second possession and the game went into overtime.

The `Cats were held scoreless in the five-minute overtime period as the RedHawks went on a 10-0 run, including eight by Markwood who finished the game with a game-high 30 points.
