ATHENS, Ohio - Despite having three players in double figures, the Ohio women's basketball team dropped a 62-56 decision to Eastern Michigan on Think Pink day at The Convo.
Senior Lauren Kohn (Adrian, Mich.) led Ohio with 17 points, while sophomore Jenny Poff (St. Johns, Mich.) and junior Chandra Myers (Sugarcreek, Ohio) contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Junior Lauren Hmiel (York, Pa.) and senior Quintana Ward (Park Forest, Ill.) both finished with six points, while Myers added 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Poff also finished with a career-high nine rebounds, while Kohn finished with eight.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 13-9 overall, while the Eagles improve to 12-9 overall. Both teams are now 6-3 in Mid-American Conference play.
The Bobcats went into the intermission up by 14 points, 35-21. Kohn gave Ohio a team-high 15 first-half points. She scored eight of Ohio's first nine points and Myers had seven rebounds as the `Cats held the Eagles to a 23.3 field goal shooting percentage (7-of-30) in the opening frame.
After the break, Eastern Michigan went on a 20-7 run to pull within one point, 42-41, at the 9:20 mark. The Bobcats then scored eight straight points for a nine-point, 50-41, lead with 6:39 left in the game.
A three-point shot by Colleen Russell at 5:30 broke EMU's scoring drought and cut Ohio's lead to seven, 50-43. Kohn made good on a layup with 4:39 on the clock to push the Bobcats' lead to nine again.
Back-to-back three-point buckets from Amanda Compton sparked a 9-2 for the Eagles who tied the game, 52-52, with 3:11 on the clock.
With 2:25 left to play, Eastern Michigan took its first lead, 54-52, since the 19:29 mark in the first half. A jumper by Brittany Tyson led to a 10-2 run that gave the Eagles their second straight win.
Tyson led the Eagles with 11 points, while Russell and Cassie Schrock finished with nine points each.
For the game, Ohio shot 36.7 percent on 22-of-60 shooting from the floor, while Eastern Michigan shot 32.8 percent on 22-of-67 shooting.
The Bobcats will be back in action at The Convo on Wednesday, Feb. 13, when they host Toledo at 7 p.m.
