ATHENS, Ohio - Seniors Lauren Kohn and Simone Redd led the way as the Ohio women's basketball team defeated Toledo, 70-58, Wednesday night in the Convocation Center.

Kohn (Adrian, Mich.) poured in a game-high 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field, including a 3-of-4 effort from the free-throw line and a 7-of-8 effort from three-point land. It was Kohn's 20th double-digit scoring game of the season and her seventh game scoring 20 or more points.

Redd (Warrensville Heights, Ohio) finished the game scoring 12 of Ohio's 26 bench points. Redd was 5-of-6 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.

"Last game the bench really didn't produce for the team like we needed to," said Redd. "We took it upon ourselves to be more aggressive in this game. I'm glad I was able to give my teammates another scoring outlet."

With the win, the Bobcats improve to a 14-9, 7-3 MAC record, while the Rockets drop to a 10-12, 3-7 MAC record. It is Ohio's first win over Toledo since Feb. 23, 2000.

"We talked before the game and I reminded the team that Toledo was 8-0 against us in the last eight years," said Head Coach Sylvia Crawley. "Simone (Redd) and Lauren (Kohn) have never beaten Toledo in their careers at Ohio. One of our goals for the season was for them to have beaten every team in the MAC at least once. I could tell from the shootaround that we were ready to play. Everyone was energetic and it seemed like a totally different team from a few days ago. It was a total team effort tonight."

Also chipping in for Ohio were junior Chandra Myers (Sugarcreek, Ohio) with eight points and four rebounds and sophomore Jennifer Bushby (Gahanna, Ohio) with seven points, three rebounds and five assists. Junior Lauren Hmiel (York, Pa.) led the `Cats in rebounding for the second time this season with seven boards. Hmiel also had six points and two assists.

Leading the way for the Rockets was Ta'Yani Clark with 18 points. Clark shot 50 percent from the field, connecting on 6-of-12 shots, including 2-of-6 from three-point range. She also had nine rebounds. Nacole Stocks had eights points for the Rockets, while Lisa Johnson and Jessica Williams finished with seven points each.

For the game, the Bobcats shot 39.7 percent from the floor compared to 42.9 percent shooting from the Rockets. The teams were similar on the boards, with Ohio having a 39-38 edge. The Bobcats forced 23 turnovers on the Rockets and scored 23 points off of them. The `Cats also scored 32 points in the paint and had 16 second chance points.

"I thought that the screen was the key to us getting a lot of our open shots tonight," said Crawley. "We had ball movement and player movement and that was actually a part of our gameplay. I also thought that Toledo did a great job of setting screens. The entire game just involved lots of movement and was a transition game. We got some turnovers on their part and it transitioned into easy baskets for us. I think when we are switching our screens it makes us much more aggressive. We were in attack mode on offense and we were aggressive on defense."

Ohio's next test will be on the road when the squad travels to Northern Illinois to take on the Huskies on Feb. 16. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. CT.
