ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio Bobcats (2-8, 1-5) fell to the Falcons of Bowling Green (5-5, 3-3) in a match-up of Mid-American Conference East division foes on Heroes Day at Peden Stadium, 28-3.
The Bobcats tallied 228 total yards of offense, on 40 rushing and 188 passing. Quarterbacks Boo Jackson (Gardena, Calif.) and Brandon Jones (Marietta, Ga.) combined to finish 13-30 with two interceptions. Running back Vince Davidson (Dayton, N.J.) led Ohio with a career-high 66 yards on the ground. Sophomore receiver LaVon Brazill (Lantana, Fla.) caught four passes for 70 yards to pace the Bobcat passing attack. Sophomore linebacker Noah Keller (Kearney, Neb.) notched a team-high nine tackles, including a sack, for the Bobcat defense.
Bowling Green had 322 total yards, with 229 through the air. Quarterback Tyler Sheehan finished 22-29 with two touchdowns. Senior Corey Partridge led the Falcon receivers with five catches for 63 yards. Junior Jahmal Brown had a game-high 13 tackles for the Falcon defense.
The Falcons received the opening kickoff but were held to three plays by the Bobcat defense. On Ohio's first possession of the game, Bowling Green's Erique Dozier intercepted Jackson's pass and returned it to the Ohio 41-yard line.
Seven plays later, Bowling Green's Jermiah Kelley caught an 8-yard pass from Sheehan in the back corner of the end zone for the lone score of the first quarter.
The only points of the second quarter came on an eight-play, 75-yard drive, capped by Falcon quarterback Andrew Beam's 22-yard pass to Sheehan for a touchdown, making the score 14-0 in favor of the Falcons midway through the quarter.
A 40-yard field goal attempt by Bowling Green's Sinisa Vrvilo was wide right with under a minute to go in the second period, leaving the score 14-0 at the half.
Ohio received the ball to start the second half. On the drive, Brazill hauled in a career-long 41-yard pass from Jackson to put the Bobcats inside the Falcons' 20-yard line. Barrett Way nailed a 21-yard field goal for Ohio to make the score 14-3.
On the ensuing possession, Bowling Green marched 80 yards downfield on 15 plays, and Beam scored on a two-yard quarterback keeper to increase the Falcon lead to 21-3.
Minutes later, senior linebacker John Haneline picked off a Jackson pass to give Bowling Green the ball at the Ohio nine-yard line. Senior receiver Marques Parks then brought down a four-yard throw from Sheehan for another Falcon touchdown. The score stood 28-3 at the end of the third quarter, which is how the game would end.
The Bobcats will face the Zips of Akron on Saturday, Nov. 22 for Senior Day at Peden Stadium.
