Bobcats Split Matches at Hoosier Duals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Ohio wrestling team competed in its first dual action of the season at the Hoosier Duals, hosted by Indiana University, on Saturday. The Bobcats finished the day 2-2-1, defeating the University of the Cumberlands and Liberty, tying South Dakota State, and falling to Rutgers and 18th-ranked Indiana.

The first match of the day pitted Ohio against host Indiana. The Hoosiers dominated the action, winning 38-3. Ohio’s only points were scored by redshirt junior Jacob Ison at 174 pounds in an 8-5 decision over IU’s Trevor Perry.

Ohio then faced Rutgers and performed well early, but ended up losing the contest by a score of 19-11. Quentin Keyes, Seth Morton, Matt Reedy and Ison all won their matches for Ohio.

The Bobcats’ first dual victory of the season came against the University of the Cumberlands, 26-18. Darrin Boing, Nick Purdue, Clay Tucker and Andy Hartshorn scored the victories.

South Dakota State took on Ohio next, wrestling them to a 21-21 tie. Ohio’s Tucker won a major decision over Weston Blaisus, 14-3, while Tommy Weinkam won by technical fall, 15-0, over Weston Ginther.

Ohio finished the day with a close, 17-16, win over Liberty. Morton, Tucker, Weinkam, Ison and Hartshorn scored to pull out the victory.

The Bobcats return to the mat next week when they head down south for meets against The Citadel and Appalachian State. Ohio takes on the Bulldogs at 7 p.m. ET Thursday, Dec. 4, and then faces the Mountaineers on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. ET.
