MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Ohio women's basketball team captured its fourth straight conference win Saturday afternoon over Central Michigan, 71-64.
With the win, Ohio improves to 11-8 on the season and 4-2 in the MAC, while Central Michigan drops to 4-15 on the season and 0-6 in the MAC.
Lauren Kohn (Adrian, Mich.) scored 22 points for the second straight game, shooting 7-of-15 from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. She also had four steals. Jennifer Poff (St. Johns, Mich.) scored 14 points, while Chandra Myers (Sugarcreek, Ohio) finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
Myers created an instant spark for the Bobcats on offense, scoring the first two baskets of the game. The Bobcats held a 6-4 lead heading into the first media timeout at 15:54. After timeout, the Bobcats went on a 7-0 run to grab a 13-4 lead, forcing a CMU timeout at 13:51.
The Chippewas responded with a run of their own, scoring 14 points to the Bobcats' five to tie the game 18-18 with 7:56 on the clock. Both squads kept it close and tied the game again, 22-22, at the 4:32 mark.
The next four minutes was all Kohn for the Bobcats. The senior guard made two steals, hit a three-pointer and converted a three-point play with two seconds remaining in the frame to lift Ohio to a 35-28 halftime lead. She finished the half leading all scorers with 14 points.
Angel Chan started the second half scoring back-to-back baskets to pull the Chippewas within two, 33-31, at the 18:20 mark. The Bobcats then used a 15-2 run to pull ahead 46-35 with 16:13 on the clock. During the run, Poff scored five points, including a three point shot at 16:43, while Myers scored four points.
With 5:25 remaining in the game, Central Michigan came within five points, 61-57, but after leading 67-61 with less than a minute to play, Ohio closed out the game with the 71-64 victory.
Chan led Central Michigan with 14 points, while Britni Houghton scored 10 points.
Ohio will be back in action at The Convo when the Bobcats host Ball State at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
