ST.LOUIS, Mo. - The 11th-ranked Ohio field hockey team defeated St. Louis, 4-1, in a non-conference game on Saturday.
With the win, Ohio improves to 8-3 on the season while St. Louis falls to 2-9.
The Bobcats set the pace early on as Rachelle Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa) and Katelyn Shelley (Ephrata, Pa.) each scored a goal within the first 22 minutes of play to put Ohio up 2-0.
St. Louis closed out the opening frame with a goal by Catherine Donovan at the 32:14 mark to pull within one at 2-1.
Coetzee scored her second goal of the game and her fifth goal of the season 14 minutes into the second half. The goal was unassisted and shot from the center of the circle.
Lauren Cassady (Columbus, Ohio) scored Ohio's fourth goal at the 55:13 mark off her own rebound.
Ohio will return to the field and to MAC play against Missouri State on tomorrow. The game is slated to start at 2 p.m.
