ATHENS, Ohio - The 2007 season is only two meets old for the Ohio men's and women's cross country teams, but Craig Leon (Van Wert) already has his second win of the season, this time with a first place finish at Saturday's Ohio Invitational.
Leon stayed with the lead pack for the entire race before pulling ahead for good on the third leg of the men's 8k run held on the Ohio University Golf Course. The senior finished with a time of 25:12.06.
Cincinnati runners took second through seventh places for a team score of 20, which earned the Bearcats the overall men's title.
Ohio's Ridge Robinson (Navarre), Brian King (Richfield, Minn.) and Shamus Eaton (Uniontown) rounded out the top-10.
On the women's side, Cincinnati again took the overall team title in impressive fashion, sweeping the top five positions for a perfect team score of 15.
Melissa Hornor (Hilliard) was the top finisher for the Bobcats, finishing in seventh.
Ohio took second as well in the women's team standings with Cleveland State taking third place and Alderson Broaddus finishing in fourth.
Many of Ohio top women's runners did not compete in the event, including Carime Reinhart (Boscom) and Kari Summers (Troy), who finished second and third, respectively, in last weekend's Mel Brodt Invite at Bowling Green State University.
The Bobcats will be back in action next weekend at the Notre Dame Invitational.
