MOON TOWNSHIP, Penn. - Ohio keeper Jess MacLean (Loveland) recorded two spectacular overtime saves to keep Robert Morris off the scoreboard in the Bobcats' 0-0 double-overtime draw Friday afternoon against the Colonials.
In the second overtime Robert Morris' freshman forward Kathleen Caggiano was one-on-one with MacLean when the Northeast Conference's most recent Newcomer of the Week winner fired a shot from ten yards out. MacLean quickly dove to her right and stopped the potential game-winning shot cold.
MacLean has started every game this season for the Bobcats and Ohio's 0-4-2 record is not a reflection of her growth at the position this season. The sophomore keeper has allowed just seven goals through 540-plus minutes of play in six games, including two goals each against top-30 ranked Louisville and Ohio State. Her goals against average of 1.15 is almost a full goal better than her mark last season and her 22 saves is only 13 shy of her total in 2006.
While MacLean's fantastic effort in overtime highlighted the defensive effort against a Colonials team that had demolished Howard just three days prior in a 10-0 victory, once again missed opportunities was the story of the day for Ohio's offense.
The Bobcats rifled 19 shots against Robert Morris - including three in the two overtime periods - but only four required a save from Colonial keeper Jessica Onufer. Erika Schmitt (Wyoming) led the way with five shots and Maggie Rojas-Alford (Minnetonka, Minn.) added four as well.
The Bobcats will stay in Pennsylvania for the weekend with another game in the Steel City against Pitt. The Panthers host West Virginia at 7 p.m. on Friday before welcoming the Bobcats for a Sunday afternoon game, set to kickoff at 1 p.m.
