BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 12 Ohio field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 5 Wake Forest on Saturday.
Wake Forest was first on the scoreboard at the 11-minute mark, but Bobcat sophomore Marcy Dull (Ephrata, Pa.) scored 28 minutes later to even the score at 1-1.
Kim Romansky scored the game-winner for the Demon Deacons at the 25:45 mark.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 5-3 on the season while the Demon Deacons improve to 4-2.
"Wake Forest is a very high-level team," said Head Coach Neil Macmillan. "I have a lot of respect for them. They really demonstrated in the two 25s their higher level of hockey. I think that Jessie Martin and our defense kept us in the game."
Martin (Louisville, Ky.) recorded a career-best nine saves in goal for Ohio. Goalie Crystal Duffield made no saves for Wake Forest.
Rita Murphy (Louisville, Ky.) and Lauren Stahlhuth (St. Louis, Mo.) each had a defensive save for the Bobcats.
Ohio will kick off conference play at Ball State on Saturday, Sept. 22. The Bobcats and the Cardinals last met in the championship game of last year's MAC Tournament. Ohio won the game, 2-1.
The Bobcats also head to Oxford, Ohio on Sunday, Sept. 23 to take on Miami.
