MIDLAND,Mich. - The seventh-seeded Ohio softball team dropped an 8-3 decision to second-seeded Eastern Michigan in the first round of the 2007 Mid-American Conference Softball Tournament.
Ohio (25-20) finished with three runs on 12 hits and two errors, while Eastern Michigan (24-20) had eight runs on five hits and one error.
Debbie Szalejko (Beavercreek, Ohio) and Marian Davis sparked Ohio's offense, going 3-for-5 and 2-for-4, respectively.
Eastern Michigan had a 3-0 lead before the game was suspended yesterday because of inclement weather. Ohio began the continuation today with a run in the top of the third.
Amanda Sacks (Chugiak, Alaska) led off the third with a single and later scored on a sacrifice by Shalene Petrich (Chehalis, Wash.).
The Eagles countered with another run in the bottom of the fourth for a 4-1 advantage.
Szalejko led off the fifth inning for Ohio with a double to left field. She advanced to third on a single then scored on an error to cut Eastern Michigan's lead to 4-2.
With two runs in its half of the fifth, Eastern Michigan increased its lead to 6-2.
Alicia Catlette (Mogadore, Ohio) hit an RBI single to left field to score Saucedo in the top of the seventh inning for Ohio's third run.
The Bobcats will play their second game of the tourney at 2:30 p.m. against Western Michigan.
