GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Ohio (1-6) softball team concluded day two of the Spartan Softball Classic with a 2-1 loss to Morehead State (1-2) and a 3-0 loss to Campbell.

Ohio fell in the day's opener against Morehead State. The Eagles were first on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Both teams were scoreless in innings two through five until Ohio tied the game in the top of the sixth.

Freshman Shalene Petrich (Chehalis, Wash.) led off the sixth with a double and senior Marian Davis (Brighton, Mich.) followed with another double that scored Petrich to even the score, 1-1.

Morehead State countered with a run in its half of the sixth frame and the Bobcats were unable to mount a comeback.

Michelle Sauter (Chehalis, Wash.) took the loss for the Bobcats despite striking out eight batters. She allowed two runs on three hits and put in six innings of work.

In game two, the Bobcats were unable to score against Campbell. Alicia Catlette (Mogadore, Ohio) singled on one hit and Kelly Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) and Amanda Sacks (Chugiak, Alaska) each walked. Freshman Candace Saucedo (Ontario, Calif.) put forth a solid effort but it was not enough. Saucedo pitched all six innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out three.

"I was really proud of our effort in the second game," said Head Coach Jill Matyuch. "We hit the ball very well, we were solid defensively and Candace pitched a good game. I'm just proud of our effort."

Ohio returns to action tomorrow against tourney host UNC Greensboro at 1 p.m.
