YPSILANTI, Mich. - Ohio dropped just its second of five dual meet this season, losing 31-6 to Eastern Michigan at the Eagles' Bowen Field House. Erik Schuth won 4-3 at 184 pounds for the Bobcats.
In the first MAC dual meet of the season the Eagles jumped out to a quick lead when Andrew Novak Novak pinned Ohio's Heath Allen in one minute, 31 seconds for the victory in the 125 pound weight bracket.
Seth Morton battled for the Bobcats in the next bout, at 133, but lost 9-1 to EMU's Sean Clair, who began the season ranked in the top-20 before falling out in the last national NWCA/InterMat Division I Individual poll. Eastern Michigan's David Pienaar defeated Ohio's Germane Lindsey 6-4 at 141 pounds and the Eagles' Reece Cox beat Clay Tucker with a fall in one minute, 22 seconds.
Cory Mancuso tried to upset Ohio's No. 19 ranked Jake Frerichs, but the junior won 6-5 in two overtimes at 157 pounds but Jacob Ison dropped a 4-3 decision at 165 to Justin Brandel. Eastern Michigan scored another victory at 174 when Derek Foore defeated Kent Smith 9-2.
Ohio tallied its second victory of the meet when freshman Erik Schuth defeated Charlie Pienaar 4-3 at 184 pounds. Ohio dropped the last two bouts of the day, with Chris Iammarino losing a close match 3-2 at 197 pounds and Jason Marshall falling 7-3 at heavyweight.
The Bobcats had just three days to prepare after traveling back to Athens on Sunday from Las Vegas where they competed in the Cliff Keen Invitational. Marshall and Keyes both tallied 3-2 records in the two day event to lead the 'Cats.
