ATHENS, Ohio - Jacob Ison, Kevin Christensen and Germane Lindsey shined for the Bobcats at the Ohio Duals on Sunday at the Convocation Center, a meet featuring Findlay, UNC Greensboro, No. 19 Pitt and No. 12 Ohio State.
Ison (Batavia, Ohio) posted a 3-1 record on the day, including a pin of UNC-Greensboro's Byron Sigmon (4:03). The sophomore also register wins against Pitt's Ethan Headlee (8-2 decision) and Findlay's Jeff Havelka (10-5 decision).
Lindsey (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded wins in his first two matches of the day, against UNCG's Ben Wilmore (12-5 major decision) and Findlay's Josh Falk (7-4 decision). Christensen (Fairborn, Ohio) also recorded back-to-back wins to begin the day with decisions against UNCG's Andrew Saunders (5-3) and Findlay's Andrew Vasquez (8-1).
Ohio led UNCG 16-15 going into the final two bouts of the duel but pins by the Spartans' No. 12 ranked Daren Burns at 197 and Ryan Hsu at heavyweight gave UNCG additional points and the Bobcats lost their 9 a.m. match 27-16. In the other 9 a.m. dual, Pitt swept Division II Findlay 42-0 and Panther wrestlers pinned three Roughnecks.
Ohio battled Findlay in its second dual of the day and once again the Bobcats lost a close match. The Roughnecks started the dual with two victories but Ohio countered with two of its own. The Bobcats then won two of the next three duals but Findlay captured the last three to take the dual 18-12. All 10 matches were straight decisions. In the other 11 a.m. match, Ohio State defeated UNC Greensboro 39-6.
At 1 p.m. the Bobcats rested while Ohio State defeated Findlay 47-0, a dual featuring five Buckeye pins. The other early afternoon dual pitted Pitt and UNC Greensboro, a match that the Panthers took 35-4.
The Bobcats struggled in its final two duals of the day, losing 36-6 to No. 19 ranked Pitt at 3 p.m. and 45-3 to No. 12 ranked Ohio State at 5 p.m. Findlay defeated UNC Greensboro 20-15 in the other 3 p.m. dual. Ison and Seth Morton (Canal Winchester, Ohio) recorded decisions against Pitt and Chris Iammarino (Lyndhurst, Ohio) claimed a marathon three-overtime victory against the Buckeyes' John Weakley. It was the only bout the Buckeyes lost in any of their three duals.
Ohio State went undefeated with a 3-0 record, matching Pitt's three victories and zero defeats. Findlay split its four duals on the day, with a 2-2 record. UNC Greensboro took a 1-3 mark and Ohio posted a 0-4 record.
