ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio women's basketball team used stifling defense to defeat Morehead State, 76-54, Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center. The Bobcats limited the Eagles to just 18-of-64 floor shooting (28.1 percent) and held a 15-point lead for most of the second half.

Four Bobcats tallied double-digit point totals with Simone Redd's (Warrensville Heights, Ohio) game-high 16 leading the way. Lauren Kohn (Adrian, Mich.) recorded 15 points and Chandra Myers (Sugarcreek, Ohio) and Jennifer Bushby (Gahanna, Ohio) added 11 and 12 points, respectively. It was Kohn's eighth game of the season with 10 or more points.

Morehead State (3-9) knocked down just 7-of-31 shot attempts in the first half, including 9-of-15 from beyond the 3-point line, but used offensive rebounds and Ohio turnovers to keep the score close. In the second half the Bobcats heated up offensively and the Eagles' cold streak continued as they knocked down just 11-of-33 shots.

Tarah Combs led Morehead State with 15 points, while Kentucky transfer Afton Perry had 14 points and Brandi Rayburn added 11 points.

The Bobcats pulled down 46 rebounds compared to 34 by the Eagles and recorded eight blocks and 11 steals to Morehead State's five blocks and seven steals.

Catherine Cain (Dayton, Ohio) led the Bobcats with seven rebounds, while Perry's 11 paced the Eagles. Kohn recorded four of Ohio's steals and Kamille Buckner (Chicago, Ill.) notched three blocks. Bushby's seven assists was a season high and just one shy of her career best.

Morehead State cut Ohio's lead to just five points with a 3-pointer from Marceya Mingo with 15:42 remaining in the second half, but the Bobcats answered with a 16-3 run to take an 18-point lead on a Kohn jumper with 10:20 remaining in the game. The Bobcat lead stayed in double-digits for the remainder of the game with the final 22-point advantage being the largest of the game.

Morehead State now holds a 5-2 advantage in the all-time series record between the two schools. The Bobcats have won the last two meetings.

Ohio will travel to Annapolis, Md., to play Navy on Jan. 1 before opening MAC play at home game against Kent State on Jan. 9.
