Recap | Box Score | Ohio vs. Showtime Skins
Head Coach Sylvia Crawley
Opening Statement:
"We have a lot of players who can play different positions so it was good to mix it up and give everyone a chance to play. We have six freshmen so we played everyone tonight and got the chance to give them experience. This is a great time for them to get in the game and just play through some mistakes. I also thought we had great leadership from our seniors. Simone (Redd) had a very solid game, I was especially impressed with things she did other than scoring. She crashed the boards hard and played very good team defense. Quintana Ward played extremely well running the team. I did a lot with Quintana last year as far as letting her know how important she is to this team."
On the difference between this team and last year's team:
"We are a more athletic team this year. Last year we were low on numbers, we only had ten players and only nine players on the active roster list. We couldn't take any risks. We couldn't gamble on steals, couldn't block shots because we couldn't afford to have players in foul trouble. This year we have 14 on the roster so we can afford to take a few more risks and get out in passing lanes. I have really unleashed these players to get in passing lanes, get steals and play a more transition game. We want them all going extremely hard. This was a good experience for us to just work on the press, work out some kinks and take some chances."
On the freshman play in tonight's game:
"I was impressed with their play. The more playing time they get, the better they will get. With that said, the better they get the better our team will get. It is very important for us to give them experience early in the season so they are prepared for conference play."
Senior Guard Simone Redd
On playing the senior leadership role on team:
"Being a senior I know we have a lot of new freshman this year so I will take it upon myself to be a role model. Teach them some of the things on the court that I have learned during the past couple of years. It is a challenge and something I'm looking forward to."
Senior Point Guard Quintana Ward
On the pressure of running the offense for the team:
"We are young and I just have to also take it upon myself to run the team and get us excited. I need to have a lot of intensity on both ends of the floor. I think when you lead by example, others will fall in line. I do it vocally and by example. We have a lot of talent and need to get it done."
