Hoosier Duals Complete Results ![]()
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Ohio wrestling started the season strong, finishing with a 4-1 record at the Hoosier Duals on Saturday in the squad's first team-scored event of the 2007 campaign.
Ohio defeated Liberty (22-10), Duke (26-17), Cumberland (28-9) and Oregon (28-12) before being knocked off by the host Indiana Hoosiers 34-9 in the final match of the meet.
Jake Frerichs, Jacob Ison, Clay Tucker and Chris Iammarino shined for the Bobcats.
Frerichs compiled a 4-1 overall record at the event, featuring pins against Cumberland's Grant Hoppell (3:24) and Oregon's Jeremy McLoughlin (2:48). Ison posted a 4-1 record with two pins, his coming against Cumberland's Robert Germaine (2:10) and Oregon's Zach Frasier (6:59).
Tucker went 3-1 on the day, recording wins against Liberty, Duke and Cumberland before dropping a 13-9 decision to Oregon's Brett Gray. Tucker did not compete against Indiana.
Chris Iammarino had the more surprising run. The freshman from Lyndhurst, Ohio tallied decisions against Liberty, Duke, Cumberland and Oregon before falling 2-0 to Indiana's Joe Fagiano. The only Bobcat to record a victory against the Hoosiers was freshman Germane Lindsey, who won a 7-2 decision against IU's Alex Warren.
Lindsey recorded a 3-2 record at 141 pounds, including a pin of Duke's Spencer Jasper (2:24).
Tim Samson, wrestling at heavyweight rather than his normal 197 weight class, performed well, finishing with a 2-2 record. Erik Schuth also split his four matches. Senior Ryan Knapp tallied a 2-1 mark and Quentin Keyes finished 2-3.
Indiana won the event with a 5-0 record with Ohio taking second (4-1), Oregon (3-2) and Cumberland, Liberty and Duke all tied for fourth at 1-4.
The Bobcats have the upcoming week to rest and, more importantly, pack for their upcoming trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, to take place in the Cliff Keen Invitational. The 26th annual meet in the desert features 49 teams including MAC members Buffalo and Northern Illinois. Other teams making the trip to Sin City include Michigan, Ohio State and future Ohio dual meet foes North Carolina, NC State, Pitt and Virginia Tech.
