ATHENS, Ohio - The 15th-ranked Ohio field hockey team scored five goals in the first half to defeat MAC foe Kent State, 5-3, Friday afternoon at Peggy Pruitt Field. The Bobcats improve to 13-4 and 7-1 in the MAC, while the Golden Flashes fall to 10-7 and 5-3 in the MAC.

Marcy Dull (Ephrata, Pa.) and Estienne Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa) scored two goals apiece, while Torrie Albini (Escondido, Calif.) added another goal as the Bobcats remain undefeated on their home field with a 5-0 record.

"We came out today with an aggressive, go-getter mindset," said Dull. "It helped us dictate their style of play and helped us play our game, opposed to watching what they did and reacting to that."

Dull's first goal at the 2:58 mark gave Ohio an early 1-0 lead, but Kent State quickly responded with a goal at the 4:17 mark to knot the score at 1-1.

Ohio then went on a 3-0 scoring run in the span of three minutes to take a commanding 4-1 lead. At 12:27, Coetzee pushed it past Kent State's goalie off a long pass from her sister Rachelle Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa), and 17 seconds later, Albini scored off her own rebound. Coetzee then scored her second goal of the game at the 15:06 mark off a fastbreak and assist from Dull to put Ohio up by three.

"After we got the first goal in, we all got charged up," said Dull. "We got excited and were aggressive in the circle and kept putting goals in."

At 15:40, Nicole Leach snuck one in for the Golden Flashes, dropping the `Cats lead to two at 4-2. Dull then scored her second goal of the game and eighth goal of the season at the 33:14 mark to close out the opening frame.

Kent State scored the lone goal of the second half, but it wasn't enough and Ohio walked away with the victory.

For the game, Ohio took 11 shots, including eight on goal, and landed seven penalty corners. Kent State took 14 shots, including 10 on goal, and was awarded nine penalty corners. Bobcat goalkeeper Jessie Martin (Louisville, Ky.) got the win in goal, while recording seven saves. Kara Copeland of Kent State made three saves.

Ohio will play the last of its home games Sunday against Missouri State at 12 p.m. Sunday is Senior Day at Peggy Pruitt Field. Bobcat seniors Torrie Albini, Lauren Cassady, Katherine Claeys, Rita Murphy and Lindsay Schwartz will be recognized before the game starts.
