ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio wrestling team won all but three matches in its first home event since Jan. 3 as the Bobcats handed Buffalo a 25-9 loss Saturday night at the Convocation Center.

"I thought we wrestled pretty well," Head Coach Joel Greenlee said. "It was huge getting wins at 165 and 197. We're gaining ground and moving in the right direction."

Ohio (13-6, 2-1) has two wins in three Mid-American Conference dual meets this season after posting a 1-4 record last year. The Bobcats lost to the Bulls by a score of 25-9 last season in Buffalo. The 13-6 record in dual meets is the third most wins for Greenlee in his 10 seasons as head coach of the Bobcats. Buffalo drops to 0-2 in MAC action.

The meet started at 125 pounds and freshman Seth Morton (Canal Winchester, Ohio) earned two points in the first period against Dan Bishop, ranked fourth in the MAC at 125. Morton was close to a pin but the period ended before he could get the shoulders down. Morton took a 3-0 lead with an escape in the second and immediately converted it into a takedown and a 5-0 lead with a riding time advantage heading into the third period. Bishop started the third off with a takedown but Morton held on for the 5-2 win. Morton moved to 8-11 on the season with the win.

The 133-pound match up featured the top two ranked wrestlers in the MAC in sophomore Terry Jackson (Uhrichsville, Ohio) and Mark Budd. Budd also entered the contest ranked 16th in the nation. The two wrestlers battled to a scoreless tie through the first two periods, before Budd earned one point on an escape early in the third. Jackson evened things late in the match on a stalling penalty but Budd had a riding time advantage for a 2-1 victory to even the team scores at three.

At 141, sophomore Albert Madsen (Strongsville, Ohio) earned a quick takedown of Buffalo's Andrew Stella and Stella immediately countered with an escape for a 2-1 score after one period. Madsen extended the lead to 4-1 early in the second with a reversal and Stella earned an escape late to make it a 4-2 contest heading into the third. Stella earned another escape in the third but Madsen hung on for a 5-3 win after a riding time advantage. The win moved Madsen to 7-5 on the year.

"Albert was a little conservative, I thought, but he won and that was a good match for him," Greenlee said.

Freshman Clay Tucker (Martins Ferry, Ohio) started the 149-pound match off with a takedown of Jason Hilliard but Hilliard quickly escaped. Tucker earned another takedown in the first for a 4-1 lead heading into the second period. Hilliard answered with a three-point near fall in the second but Tucker reversed it and got a three-point near fall of his own and shortly after added another one for a 12-4 lead after two periods. He used a riding time advantage in the third period to finish off the major decision win, 13-4. Tucker went to 7-15 on the year and gave Ohio a 10-3 lead after four matches.

The 157-pound match started off with a scoreless first period before sophomore Jake Frerichs (Uniontown, Ohio) earned a 2-0 lead with a reversal of Buffalo's Justin Hunt in the second period. He carried the same lead and a riding time advantage into the third period and held on for a 3-0 win. Frerichs moved to 12-6 on the season and gave Ohio a 13-3 lead.

At 165, Buffalo's Make Ragusa, ranked fourth in the MAC, earned a takedown in the first period but third-ranked Jacob Ison (Batavia, Ohio) escaped for a 2-1 score. Ison evened the score early in the second with another escape and then earned a takedown right before the buzzer for a 4-2 lead. Ragusa earned an escape to start the third and then momentarily took the lead in the final seconds with a takedown before Ison reversed it for the 6-5 win. With the win, Ison improved to 25-9 on the season as Ohio took a 16-3 lead.

"It's always good to have that trick up your sleeve," Ison said. "There's always that one last move that you can hit. I tried to hit it and it worked. I just get pumped up watching all of these other guys win so I just go out there and do the same thing."

Junior Antione Love (Gahanna, Ohio) looked for his 20th win of the season a 174 against Buffalo's Nate Rock, but Rock scored first with a takedown. Love earned an escape to make the deficit 2-1 after the first period. Love made the scoreboard a moot point in the second, however, pinning Rock just 11 seconds into the period. Love moved to 20-5 on the year and 7-0 in matches decided by a pin. With the victory, the Bobcats went out to a commanding 22-3 lead with just three matches left.

At 184, Buffalo's Ray Lamb started off with a takedown of senior Nick Terbay (Dayton, Ohio) but Terbay quickly escaped for a 2-1 deficit after one period. Lamb started the second off with an escape and then earned a takedown before Terbay was able to make the score 5-2 on an escape. The senior Bobcat started the third with another escape but Lamb got another takedown at the end of the period for a 7-4 victory.

After a scoreless first period in the 197-pound match, sophomore Larry Reichard (New Albany, Ohio) started the second period with two points on a reversal of Buffalo's Ricky Scott. Scott entered the match ranked third in the MAC at 197 pounds. Reichard held onto the 2-0 lead heading into the third period and built a riding time advantage 30 seconds into the final period. Scott earned an escape late in the period but Reichard held on for a 3-1 win to move to 17-11 on the season.

The Bobcats return to action next Saturday when they host a pair of dual meets at the Convocation Center. Ohio will battle Ashland at 10:00 a.m. and Virginia at 2:00 p.m.

In the heavyweight match, senior Marcus Adelman (Alliance, Ohio) aimed for his ninth-consecutive win against Buffalo's Jason Weber. Adelman entered the match ranked third in the MAC. The two battled to a scoreless first period before Weber earned a point on an escape and a two-point takedown in the second for a 3-0 lead. Adelman began the third period with an escape but Weber earned a takedown for a 5-1 lead and held on for the 5-4 win. Despite the loss, the Bobcats earned the 25-9 victory.
