Final Stats

ATHENS, Ohio - After beginning the MAC season by shutting out their first two opponents, the Ohio field hockey team and their stingy team defense picked up yet another shut out over the Missouri State Bears 1-0.

Sophomore Estienne Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa) broke a scoreless game at 23:02 with a goal off an assist from Torrie Albini (Escondido, Calif.) that found its way past Missouri State goalkeeper Kim Kinsella and into the back of the cage.

The Bobcats (6-5) dominated the Bears (5-4) in the first period by outshooting them 7-3.

In the second period, the Bobcats continued their tough defense and withstood Missouri State's scoring threats.

The Bobcats outshot the Bears 11-7 in the game. Rachelle Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa) and Albini led the team with four shots apiece, followed by Estienne Coetzee who had two.

The strong Bobcat team effort was anchored by sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Martin (Louisville, Ky.). Martin had three saves on the day. With the win the Bobcats improve to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

The Bobcats next game will be Friday, Oct. 6 as they travel north to face the Chippewas of Central Michigan. The game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
