ATHENS, Ohio - Junior Torrie Albini (Escondido, Calif) and the Ohio field hockey team spoiled the home opener for Davidson. The 1-0 win over Davidson is the Bobcats second consecutive win giving Ohio their first winning streak of the season.
After a scoreless first half, Albini scored the game winning goal at the 42:46 mark off a pass from Megan Rentschler (Akron, Pa.). The goal was Albini's fourth of the season.
The Bobcats improve to 3-4 overall and Davidson drops to 2-4. Ohio outshot Davidson 15-12 while also having a 9-5 advantage on shots on goal and an 11-4 advantage on penalty corners.
Albini led the Bobcats with seven shots and Rachelle Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa) added five. Rentschler recorded her first assist of the season and goalkeeper Jessie Martin (Louisville, Ky.) had five saves in 70 minutes between the pipes.
The Bobcats will be in action this Tuesday, Sept. 19, when they meet No. 6 Ohio State at Peggy Pruitt Field. The game begins at 6 p.m.
