COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Ohio women's soccer team battled a long trip, thin air and windy weather on their way to the Colorado College Invitational, and the outcome was a 3-0 loss to host Colorado College Friday at Stewart Field.
"I thought we played hard and played physical," Head Coach Stacy Strauss said. "Tiffany Horvath played very well and Dominique Wright played good in the second half. I also thought Danielle Young played very well."
The Tigers got on the board in the seventh minute when Katlin Okamota scored directly off a corner kick. Colorado College was with the wind in the first half, and the wind took the shot from Okamota and lifted it over freshman Bobcat keeper Jess MacLean (Loveland, Ohio) for the first goal of the match. Lisa Balsama added a goal in the 20th minute and Emily Beans finished the scoring six minutes later to make the score 3-0.
Ohio was limited to just one total shot in the first half, due partially to the wind, while the Tigers peppered MacLean with 14 shots in the half. The Bobcats turned things around in the second half, totaling eight shots in the half and allowing just two, but it was not enough for a comeback attempt. Wright (Durango, Colo.), a freshman keeper playing in her home state, was in goal for the Bobcats in the second half and made two saves without allowing a goal.
"We played physical, which is something I thought we had to improve on after Xavier," Strauss said. "In the second half we created more scoring opportunities."
The Bobcats finished with a total disadvantage in shots (16-9) and corner kicks (5-2) while committing more fouls than the Tigers (11-7). Ohio dropped to 2-4-0 on the season and 0-3-0 on the road while Colorado College improved to 4-1-0 overall.
The Bobcats enjoys a day off Saturday in Colorado before finishing action at the Colorado College Invitational with a Sunday match up against Weber State. The match is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. MT.
