Bobcats Drop Two at Winthrop Tourney

Rock Hill, S.C. - The Ohio softball team faced an impressive Pittsburgh offense and tough Eastern Kentucky pitching in losing 15-2 to the Panthers and 4-0 to the Colonels at the Winthrop Adidas Tournament.

In Ohio's opening contest with Pittsburgh, the Bobcats fell behind early and could never recover in the shortened five-inning game. Ohio gave up a single run in the top of the first and seven runs in both the second and fourth innings.

The Bobcat offense pushed two runs across in the bottom of the second. Emily Futscher (Cincinnati, Ohio) doubled with one out and moved to third on a single from Robin Miller (Chagrin Falls, Ohio). Alicia Catlette (Mogadore, Ohio) followed with a single to plate Futscher. After Marian Davis (Brighton, Mich.) was hit by a pitch, Kristen Salvatore (Kirkland, Ohio) knocked in Miller with a single.

Natalie Armstrong (Murrysville, Pa.) took the loss, allowing eight earned runs in 1 2/3 innings of work.

The Bobcats lost to Eastern Kentucky behind the tough pitching of Kelsey Anderson. Anderson, the Colonels' best pitcher, came into the game with a 1.89 earned run average and proved to be a tough competitor inside the circle.

Ohio could manage only two hits, getting singles from Miller and Courtney Waters (Eagle River, Alaska). Waters' single was her first hit of the season after coming back from offseason surgery.

Zoe Heim (Ann Arbor, Mich.) took the loss for the Bobcats, starting the game and surrendering two earned runs in an inning of work. Candace Warden (Hagerstown, Md.) threw four innings, allowing to earned runs on three hits over four innings. Michelle Sauter (Chehalis, Wash.) pitched a scoreless sixth inning.

The Bobcats provided good defense to back up the pitching, going the entire game without committing an error for sixth time this season.

Ohio falls to 9-9 on the year with the losses.

The Bobcats take the field next when they compete in the South Florida Speedline Invitational Friday through Sunday. Ohio will open the weekend Friday against Purdue at 11 a.m.
