Bobcats Win a Defensive Battle

OXFORD, Ohio - The Bobcats (8-7, 5-2 MAC) defeated Miami (7-9, 4-2 MAC) in double overtime to get back to their winning ways in MAC competition. The game was a defensive battle that lasted 85 minutes and was decided in the first minute of the second overtime period as Celine McNamara (Lakewood, Ohio) proved to be the difference in a 1-0 win for the Bobcats. The game was the Bobcats second overtime game of the season.

After a scoreless first half, the RedHawks had a chance to win the game in regulation as Meredith Corradino was awarded a penalty stroke with just over eight minutes remaining in the second half. Her shot, was saved by Jessie Martin (Louisville, Ky.), who made eight saves in the game.

Each team had an opportunity to seal the victory in the first overtime period. Miami was awarded three consecutive penalty corners early in the period but were denied by the Bobcats each time. Ohio had similar situations to score later in the period but weren't able to capitalize.

The game-winning goal came in the game's 86th minute off a shot by McNamara after she rebounded a shot by Torrie Albini and blasted it into the back of the cage.

Ohio outshot Miami 12-11 and held an 8-7 advantage in penalty corners. The win for Ohio University puts the Bobcats alone in first place in the Mid-American Conference with a 5-2 record, while Miami sits one-half game behind at 4-2.

The Bobcats return home after a five-game road trip to meet Missouri State at Peggy Pruitt Field on Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.
