Final Stats
BUFFALO, NY - A 17-point lead at the break and 17 second-half Simone Redd points drove Ohio to a 72-62 victory over Buffalo Saturday in Mid-American Conference action in Alumni Arena.
The Bobcats (5-9, 2-1 MAC) have now picked up wins in back-to-back games for the first time this season. Ohio has knocked off Buffalo (6-8, 1-2 MAC) four-straight times.
Redd (Warrensville Heights, Ohio) had just two points at the break, but exploded for 17 in the second frame to carry the Cats to victory. The sophomore guard hit 13-of-14 attempts from the free-throw line and kicked in three rebounds and a steal.
True freshman Rachel Frederick (Gibsonia, Pa.) recorded her second-straight double-double with 13 points and 12 boards. Frederick chipped in three assists and four steals. She now has four double-doubles in her young career.
The Bobcats shot 52.1 percent (25-48) from the floor Saturday and 40 percent (6-15) from the arc. Ohio committed just 13 turnovers and turned 14 Bull miscues in 12 points.
Katie Reihmann (Marengo, Iowa) was a primary factor in the Bobcats' building of the first half lead. Ranked as one of the nation's premier long-range threats, Reihmann knocked down all four of her first half three-point attempts. She'd finish the game with 12 points and a couple steals.
Helped by Reihmann's unblemished mark in the first half, the Bobcats shot 48.3 percent in the first frame. Not to be outdone, Ohio came out on fire in the second stanza and knocked down 57.9 percent of its shots. Buffalo managed to shoot 54.5 percent and outscore Ohio by seven in the second half, but it was not enough. Ohio's 34-17 halftime lead proved to be vital.
Nine Bobcats entered the scoring column Saturday, including Lauren Revesz (Bridgeville, Pa.), who kicked in eight points off the bench. Quintana Ward (Park Forest, Ill.) managed seven points and seven assists.
The Bulls were paced by four starters in double figures. Stephanie Bennett led the way with 16 points, including 12 from beyond the arc. Heather Turner recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
The Cats will stay on the road for another MAC tilt this week. Ohio will travel to face East Division leader Bowling Green on Wednesday. Tip-time is set for 7 p.m. in Anderson Arena.
