DES MOINES, Iowa - The Ohio women's soccer team finished the non-conference portion of its season with a 2-4 record after a 3-0 loss to Creighton on Sunday, the final day of the Bulldog Bash tournament hosted by Drake University.
The Bluejays (4-2-2), a team that has appeared in two of the last three NCAA Tournaments, scored goals in the 12th, 67th and 81st minutes to secure the victory.
"They were dangerous and served a lot of balls in front of our goal," said Bobcat head coach Stacy Strauss. "Although we had the run of play a lot, they just had the more dangerous chances and we couldn't get the ball from in front of our goal."
Playing in her hometown, senior goalkeeper Melissa Parra spent all 90 minutes between the pipes for Ohio and made four saves. Freshman forward Maggie Rojas-Alford (Minnetonka, Minn.) led the Bobcat attack with three shots.
For their efforts over the weekend, freshman midfielder Erika Schmitt (Wyoming, Ohio) and sophomore defender Alyssa Warren (Dublin, Ohio) were named to the Bulldog Bash All-Tournament Team.
The Bobcats, defending Mid-American Conference regular-season champs, open MAC play at home next weekend. Ohio will host Central Michigan at 4 p.m. Friday before hosting Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
"We play these games so that we can learn things and so we can adjust, adapt and get better," Strauss said about her non-conference schedule. "Certainly we would like to win more of them but we haven't put everything together yet and so that's what we need to do this week. We just need to put all the pieces together and stay confident going into conference play."
All Bobcat regular-season home matches at Chessa Field are free and open to the public.
