ATHENS, Ohio ? The Ohio Softball team went 1-1 in a double-header with Wright State Wednesday afternoon at the Ohio Softball Field. The Bobcats took a decisive 10-2 victory in six innings in game one, but fell 3-1 in the second outing. In the midst of seven-game homestand, Ohio is 2-2 and will continue its home stretch Saturday with a doubleheader versus Mid-American Conference foe Kent State. Game one is set to start at 1 p.m.
Ohio 10, Wright State 2
It only took the Bobcats six innings and 14 hits to take game one from the Raiders. Ohio wasted little time in getting ahead, scoring three runs in the first inning. Kelly Rodriguez led the game off for the Bobcats with a single to left field and was able to reach second on an error by the fielder. After Marian Davis walked the two runners advanced to third and second, respectively, off a wild pitch by the Raiders? Amanda Cody. Shannon Wiedner, batting in the three position, laid down a bunt to score Rodriguez, earning the RBI. Jenny Tisevich, made it a two run game, scoring Davis off a single to center field, and then reached second on an error by the second baseman. After Robin Miller flied out to left field, Emily Futscher gained a single off a bunt and with runners on first and third Wright State?s catcher let a hard pitch by Cody escape her allowing Tisevich to score and Futscher to take second base. Maureen McKelvey popped up to the catcher to end the inning.
After a scoreless second inning, the Raiders were able to put a run on the board in the third. Lindsey Krager reached second on an error by Rodriguez and then advanced to third on a passed ball, while Brandi Steiner drew a walk. Cody brought Krager home with a single through the left side, but with two runners on and no outs Stephanie Salas hit into a double-played, turned by McKelvey, Tisevich and Miller and then Brittany Riddle grounded out to Futscher to end the inning.
Ohio would make it a six run game in the bottom of the frame, scoring four runs. Davis, leading off for the Bobcats, reached on an error and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Weidner. Davis would score again off a double by Tisevich, bringing up Miller. Miller, who holds a .396 slugging percentage, ripped one deep over the left field wall, for her second home run of the season. But the Bobcats would put one more run on the board before the inning was over, as Futscher scored on an error after she singled through the right side and stole second.
The Bobcats, who added a run in each of the remaining three innings, gave up one more score in the top of the fifth. Tisevich and Courtney Waters were credited with an RBI in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, and a single, with two outs, by Miller would score Alicia Catlette, who had entered the game for Tisevich, to give Ohio its third early decision win of the season.
Freshman pitcher Zoe Heim was credited with her third win of the season, recording four strikeouts in four innings of work. Natalie Armstrong closed out the game, coming in as relief in the fifth, allowing one run and tallying one strikeout. Tisevich was 3-for-3 from the plate, scoring twice and batting in three, while Miller also tallied three RBI going 2-for-4 including a two run homer.
Wright State 3, Ohio 1
A different tale would be told in game two as the Bobcats? bats went cold. The Raiders put two early runs on the board and added another in the top of the fifth before Ohio posted its lone run of the game in the sixth inning.
With the rally caps on heading into the bottom of the sixth, Waters led the frame off with a single to right field and stole second, her sixth of the season. Waters would cross home plate on a double off the bat of Tisevich but the Bobcats were unable to keep the momentum going as Wright State held on for the 3-1 victory.
Freshman Michelle Sauter, in the circle for Ohio, pitched a complete game, registering five strikeouts.
