GREENSBORO, N.C. ? The Ohio baseball squad was limited to just five hits while the Spartans of UNC Greensboro plated runs in five of their eight at-bats to take the first game of a weekend set by the final of 11-1.

UNC Greensboro hurler Chris Mason (2-1) held the Bobcats to just three hits over seven innings behind a surplus of offense to earn the victory. Dan O?Rourke (0-1) took the loss for the Bobcats, allowing six Spartan runs on eight hits in 4 1-3 innings.

RBI hits by UNCG?s Greg Feltes in the first inning and Mike Mongiello in the second were all the Spartans would need with Mason rolling on the hill. Over the course of the first six innings the right-hander sent the Ohio hitters down in order on four occasions before the Bobcats finally broke through on the scoreboard in the seventh.

The Spartans plated three runs in the home half of the fifth before O?Rourke and was able to record the second out of the inning. Luke Howard came on in relief and allowed only a sacrifice fly before getting a strikeout to end the damage.

The Bobcats did manage to get a run on the board in the top of the seventh. Brian Colopy singled to lead off the inning and Ben Crabtree reached on an error, which advanced Colopy to third. Willie Walker followed with an RBI grounder to plate Colopy for Ohio?s only run of the game.

UNC Greensboro went on to score five more runs on the Bobcat bullpen with three in the seventh and two in the eighth. Howard and Zeke Isaacs were each touched with two tallies while Ohio?s fourth pitcher of the night, Brent DeCoster, allowed one run in his Bobcat debut.

?We were just outplayed in all phases of the game tonight,? said Ohio Head Coach Joe Carbone. ?Their pitcher (Mason) was the best we?ve faced this year and we were not able to get the pitching we needed to hang in there.?

Colopy finished with two of Ohio?s three hits.

Feltes and Jeremy Roulin each recorded two hits to lead the Spartan attack while Justin Crist drove home two runs.

The Bobcats and UNC Greensboro will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for a 1 p.m., first pitch. Ohio will send Rob Harmon (1-0) to the mound against Spartan lefty Ryan Falcon (1-0).
