RALEIGH ? The Ohio softball team went 0-2 on the first day of the Wolfpack Challenge. Despite Robin Miller?s first home run of the season and Jenny Tisevich driving in her team-leading 10th RBI, the Bobcats dropped games to host N.C. State and Marist.
N.C. State 3, Ohio 1
The Wolfpack were the first to strike, gaining an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Tess Corona, who pinch ran for Heather Gelbard, stole second to get in scoring position. Abbie Sims then doubled to right center to bring in Corona. Zoe Heim struck out Jen Chamberlin and made Shanna Smith ground out to third base to end the inning.
N.C. State picked up two more runs in the sixth, as Chamberlin hit a homerun with Jessica Willems on base.
Tisevich put the Bobcats on the board knocking in Debbie Szaljeko, who singled to third, for her 10th RBI of the season. Heim was credited with her first-career complete game, giving up four hits and tallying three strikeouts.
Marist 2, Ohio 1
After four scoreless innings, Miller made it a 1-0 Bobcat lead in the top of the fifth, hitting a walk-off homer, her first of the season.
Jasmery Polanco started Marist?s rally in the sixth, leading off with a single to second base. Polanco would advance to second three pitches later on a passed ball. Bridget Hurlman hit her first home run of the season to bring in the winning run.
